The article offers the “economic model” of symptomatic reading is offered one of the meaningful M. Hrushevsky’s sociological texts “Beginnings of citizenship (genetic sociology)” is offered. Such variety of interpretation is inculcated for understanding the ways of constructing of the narrative strategies, which are attracted by a historian, carrying out intellectual intervention and organizing the symbolic space of sociological discipline around his own name. The question of that is examined, in which M. Hrushevsky’s method it is succeeded to reconfigure an existing in sociology canon thus, to prescribe himself in its genealogical structure on authoritative position – on rights for one of patriarchs-founders of the discipline. Constructing the Ukrainian sociological tradition, М. Hrushevsky declares himself "the formally second" in scientific genealogy, to take the place "the really first" by means of two strategies: distracting (sending to F. Engels as "the false first") and avoidance (М. Kovalevsky as "the actual first"). This patriarchal economy of “missing the first” in the scientific genealogy is associated with the historian’s “work of mourning” taking place around the position of the deceased father (Sergij), whose place is always empty and which cannot be replaced by any one.
