У статті висвітлено обставини видання журналу «Україна» та формування основних принципів його редакційної політики. На підставі комплексу джерел проаналізовано особливості редакційної діяльності М. Грушевського, його взаємини зі співробітниками часопису. Зроблено висновок, що редакційна політика журналу «Україна» була зорієнтована на висвітлення широкої палітри проблем у галузі українознавства і здійснення критичного огляду історіографічної продукції.
The article studies the circumstances of foundation of the journal “Ukraїnа” and the formation of chief principles of its editorial policy. According to the system of sources, peculiarities of Mykhailo Hrushevskyi’s editorial activities and his relationships with colleagues of the periodical are analyzed. It has been concluded that the editorial policy of the journal “Ukraїnа” was aimed at clearing up of various problems in branch of Ukrainian Studies and realizing of critical overview of historiographical works. In chronological order the circumstances of emergence, features of the formation and patterns of functioning of the journal as a professional periodical organ are reproduced. Periodization of the history of the journal is justifi ed, key concepts and priorities of its editorial policy are elucidated. Categorization and semantic structure of the journal, editorial board and authors of the publications, genre, specifi c, disciplinary and professional affi liation of publications are analyzed. In the pages of “Ukraїnа” the features of the representation of political, social, economic, legal, cultural and educational problems of the past of Ukrainian lands from ancient days until the fi rst decades of the 20th century are explored. The values of published in the pages of the journal materials for research into the history of Ukraine is characterized. The contribution of the journal into the step of Ukrainian historiography of the fi rst third of the 20th century is shown.
